PHILLIP YIN
Communications & Partnerships Director

As an accomplished and passionate speaker on topics of Int’l trade, Global Politics, Economics, and Global Communications, Phillip is a seasoned and experienced member of the business community. He was an International Anchor for CNBC Television, Bloomberg Television, CGTN Washington D.C., and Seattle’s Q13 Fox News and also launched CGTN America in Washington D.C. as the global business anchor focused on global business, politics, and economics. He’s conducted over 4500+ interviews, including coverage of the 2012 U.S. Presidential elections. Additionally, he launched Charles Schwab’s portfolio management business in Hong Kong and managed the Swiss-based Unifund. Following Lehman’s bankruptcy, Phillip also helped lead and investigate the credit derivatives mess which later led to the recovery of $1.8 billion on behalf of over 40,000 individual investors.

 

ALEX MAK
Global Trade Director

Alex comes from a family of product sourcing entrepreneurs. Alex has over two decades of experience in global trade, product development, branding philosophy, and overall procurement management, beginning with his grandfather's toy manufacturing in the 1960s and continuing through his father's effective product sourcing for several major US, German, Dutch, and UK retail chains. Alex is a seasoned professional who is passionate about assisting a diverse group of Asian manufacturers in growing their sales through a strong network of retailers, wholesalers, and distributors. Alex now regularly oversees over 1,300 SKUs ranging from housewares to electronics, delivering over $90 million in export revenue.

 

RACHELLE KU
Senior Analyst (Asian Business Affairs)

Rachelle oversees our extensive network of Asian manufacturers as well as everyday international trade operations. Having resided in Toronto for over 10 years and coming from a family of global trade and logistics based in Hong Kong, Rachelle is experienced in managing export transactions between Asian manufacturers and North American retailers, always finding a “win-win” solution in the most effective manner. In addition, Rachelle is a certified public accountant in Canada and Hong Kong. She is adept at using her expertise in global tax structuring to address operational issues faced by corporations while optimizing the gains and profits for Newsroom Investments' clients.

 

CHRISTOPHER T.L BROWN
Legal Advisor

Practicing for nearly twenty years in the areas of business law, estate planning, and tax law, Chris has worked with small business owners and start-ups to large corporations to solve problems involving legal and tax structuring and operational issues that may derail their success. He has advised hundreds of clients on setting up their businesses, growing their enterprises and ultimately retiring from their companies by selling them or passing them to their children. And, since a client’s business is only as successful as having a strong strategy for protecting what his clients have built, Chris develops working, practical estate plans including trusts and wills that provide certainty for asset preservation and tax minimalization. His passion for and extensive knowledge of his areas of practice allow Chris to provide guidance through the confusing, intimidating, while yet important steps of preparing the success of both businesses and ordinary lives.

 

MAXWELL HOPKINS
Senior Analyst

Maxwell manages the day-to-day operations, manages communication between Newsroom Investments and its businesses, and tracks the overall successes, progress, and profits of our investments. At the age of 18, he owned and operated his painting business from top to bottom, single-handedly doing all of the marketing, hiring, sales, and financials. He is also the former president and treasurer of the Beta-Psi Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he oversaw all operations including; all communications to the university and Kappa Sigma International Headquarters, leading and managing dozens of committees and 75 members, and overseeing the entire budget.
